Where no onehas to explainthemselves.
A studio named for light.

Lucero — Spanish for a bright star, the first light you see. Founder Joshua Lucero opened the studio on a simple idea: that a haircut should never begin with a question about who you are.
Joshua came to hair during a hard chapter in his young life, and the craft became a second chance — one that, in his words, saved him in more ways than one. He threw himself into it at hair school, earned a nomination in the student category at Premiere Orlando, and learned the trade behind the chair in a barbershop, building a barber’s eye for short cuts, fades and clean lines.
From there he struck out on his own, teaching himself to cut every texture and length, and on February 6, 2023 he opened Lucero Hair and Wellness. The idea was simple, and to him long overdue: a haircut should be booked by what you want done, not by a gender attached to it. Having grown up shy and a little more feminine than the world expected — and bullied for it — he knew firsthand why a studio where no one has to explain themselves matters. Told by some in the industry that it wouldn’t work, he built it anyway, as proof that inclusivity and a thriving business are one and the same.
Today Lucero is a queer-owned salon and barbershop in Salt Lake City, with a second studio now open in Ogden. The team cuts, colors, shaves, fits hair systems and teaches — and gives back through the Gender Free Haircut Club.
“Thank you for visiting us! I truly hope that myself and my team can make your experience a safe, comfortable, and pleasant one. We are always here with open hearts, minds, and ears for anything you may need from us to better serve you. We can’t wait to have you in our space.”
You’re safe here, and you’re seen.
What that means in practice, every visit, at both studios.
Our menu is organized by what you want done. There is no “men’s cut” or “women’s cut” here.
Every identity, every texture, every body. You don’t owe anyone an explanation to sit in our chair.
Private consultations for hair systems, transitions and anything you’d rather talk through one-on-one.
We teach and train constantly — from texture to barbering to hair systems — so the craft keeps up with the people we serve.
